Beech Mountain’s Commercial District Gets a Vision for the Future

Posted on May 25, 2026June 18, 2026 by Jay Thomas

Beech Mountain’s Commercial District Gets a Vision for the Future

Big things are in the works for Beech Mountain! The town has partnered with a consulting team led by Hill Studio and Civic by Design to develop a long-term plan for its commercial district — one that focuses on walkability, accessibility, and smart, sustainable growth over the next twenty years.

The plan aims to create a true center of town with space for mixed-use residential and retail, dining, lodging, and services, while also easing traffic congestion along the Beech Mountain Parkway. The consulting team brings together planners, architects, transportation specialists, data analysts, and economists to help make that vision a reality.

Community engagement kicked off in April, continued with public sessions in May, and the process is moving into its next phase this July. Design Charrette Week 2 sessions will be held at The Venue at Boulder Creek, 1001 Beech Mountain Parkway, and are open to the public. Some sessions are interactive community discussions, while others are informational presentations.

📅 July Schedule:

DateTimeSession
Tuesday, July 89–10:30 amMarket Feasibility – Presentation
Tuesday, July 86:00 pmPublic Review and Discussion
Wednesday, July 99–10:30 amRegulatory Agencies (Town Council, Planning, Adjustment & TDA Boards) – Presentation
Wednesday, July 911 am–12:30 pmRegulatory Agencies (Part 2) – Presentation
Thursday, July 1011 am–12:30 pmPublic Review and Discussion

If you missed the earlier community sessions, you can catch up by watching the Design Charrette Week 1 videos on YouTube. Reviewing those conversations will give you great context for what the team will be presenting and discussing in July.

You can also browse the First Charrette Scrapbook for a visual recap of the planning process so far.

It's best known as a ski destination, home to Beech Mountain Resort, which offers skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating in winter, plus mountain biking and scenic activities in summer. The year-round population is only around 300–400 people, but it swells significantly with visitors and seasonal residents.
