The Town of Beech Mountain operates under the Council/ Manager Form of Government
The Town Council sets policy and the Town Manager handles day-to-day administration of all town departments and operations of the Town. Contact the Town Manager if you have a complaint that is not resolved by speaking with the department head.
The manager is the chief administrator of the Town. He is responsible to the Town Council for administration of all the Town’s affairs placed in his charge by them.
The Town Manager is also charged as the Budget Officer as required by NC General Statute 159-9. He prepares and submits the budget to the Town Council for their consideration, prepares the budget ordinance which authorizes all financial transactions of the Town (with certain exceptions), and it establishes the tax rate.
Mr. Bob Pudney serves as the Town Manager, uniquely Mr. Pudney is also the Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department and administers the operation of the Volunteer EMT Services response team. Mr. Pudney hails from Florida but he, along with his wife Connie & family are long time Beech Mountain residents since 2009.

Beech Mountain Public Works
The Public Works Department provides essential water, sewer, and sanitation services to the Town, while also working to maintain the integrity of our infrastructure and the aesthetic natural appeal of our Town.
Road Maintenance
The Public Works Department maintains the Town’s 60 miles of roadways throughout the year. During the Spring and Summer months, our staff split their time between improvement projects, routine maintenance, and repairs. The Town also offers curbside brush/yard debris pickup service; please visit our Sanitation page for more information about special pickup services or to submit a request form. During the Winter months, the staff works tirelessly around the clock to keep the roadways as safe and navigable as possible for our residents and visitors. Note: The NCDOT maintains Beech Mountain Parkway from the Hwy 194 Intersection in Banner Elk to the Ski Beech entrance. NCDOT maintenance: (828) 268-6040.
Water and Sewer Services
The Buckeye Water Treatment Plant draws approximately 150 million gallons of water from Buckeye Lake annually to produce potable water for the Town. The Town’s Water Distribution System consists of approximately 66 miles of water lines and services approximately 2200 commercial and residential taps. Water main lines, service lines, and fire hydrants are maintained and repaired by the Public Works staff.
Our Sanitary Sewer System services an estimated 1750 sewer connections, and our wastewater is treated at the Grassy Gap Facility and the Pond Creek Treatment Facility.

Sanitation
The Town of Beech Mountain provides 2-times a week, garbage collection service to all residents with active utility service accounts. Click HERE to view your collection day schedule. Post the “mailbox flag” (flip-up) the garbage bin flag for crews to pick-up refuse curb-side at dwellings.
The Town Sanitation Department is responsible for the collection and management of the Town’s refuse, as well as the Convenience Center grounds and operations. Residential Convenience Center permits are required for access to the Town’s Convenience Center.
